The company Eduard Balbach was founded as an artesian forge half a century ago, in 1963. Located in the Sauerland area of Germany, it is still run as a family business today. Since 1991, the Forge Markus Balbach, as a 2nd generation business, has been operating at a new location, producing primarily a wide range of composite materials, namely damascus steels. Sales are directly effected by the company M. Balbach and its sales partners in various countries. The Forge Markus Balbach is an industrial plant approved by §4 BImSchG (German Federal Immission Protection Law No.3.11 Sp.2 zur BImSchV).

Open hammer forge

 LuftschmiedehammerThe forge is currently equipped with 5 free-form air power hammers applying up to approx. 4.20 kJ/cm2 impact energy, with a 160 to. free-form welding press and also warm rolling machines. Normally the steel is heated using gas or electric ovens.



Annealing plant and heat treatment

Several electric furnaces are available to a depth of 1.3 meters for stress-relief and annealing of the various steel materials.

Quality control and shipment

All parts are inspected prior to despatch. Quality assurance up to the final inspection is carried out by our skilled personnel. We have been certified according to DIN EN 1090.
